Mills River United Methodist Church hosted the second Party in the Park again this past Sunday as a community outreach program. Many attended this festive fun late afternoon party, with children the prime beneficiaries. Food was offered in the picnic shelter as the attendees listened to a lively local band and waited to hear if hopefully, they had won one of the many raffle prizes. There was quite a crowd of all ages this year, including their favorite pets. The Mills River Farmer’s Market had a booth, showcasing the fresh, local products it offers.
Other fun activities for children could be found—such as face painting, a bounce castle, a giant inflatable slide, a bean bag toss and other games. It was a beautiful day to be in the Mills River Park, and many attended. The Mills River United Methodist Church members have been planning the day for some time. Tables were filled with free school supplies for grades K-12. Students could pick up binders, paper, pencils, crayons, rulers and anything a student might need to start the school year off well. Free books were spread out on a table, and even free food was distributed to help those through a difficult time.
This community outreach program by the Mills River United Methodist Church serves a real purpose and hopefully will become an annual event.
